Collaborate
We’ve created a straight-forward application process for investigators who are looking to work with and publish CHARM data. Additionally, there is a process for the approval of abstracts to be submitted to scientific meetings or approval of manuscripts to be submitted to scientific journals for publication that utilize CHARM data or resources.
- Data Request
Use this link to request data and/or biospecimens from the CHARM Alliance. Your request will then go through the Data Request Process and upon approval, you’ll be sent a unique Request ID used to track your request, analysis, manuscript submission, and return of data (if applicable).
- Abstract & Manuscript Submission
Use this link to submit your abstract & manuscript for CHARM PI approval PRIOR to conference or journal submission. If your abstract/manuscript is denied and you plan to re-submit to a new conference, journal, etc., then you must also re-submit to this link.
- Returning your data to the Study Office
For investigators who create data by analyzing biospecimens or other means, please reach out to the study office data assistant, Kaitlyn Watson epi.charm-helpdesk@msu.edu, for instructions on transferring data.
Data Dictionaries and Documentation
- Data Dictionaries
Explore our available data. You will be required to use these dictionaries should you request data or biospecimens from CHARM. When you are ready to request data, this template will be required to upload with your data request. The template also includes a list of important sociodemographic variables to keep in mind.

CHARM Sub-Studies
What is a sub-study?
A number of our partnering investigators seek funds to complete additional follow-up on our study participants. These funds are used to organize sub-studies; these studies add complementary data to our already robust datasets. Explore sub-study data using our data dictionaries.
Who participates in sub-studies?
During their initial consent into the CHARM project, participants are asked if they’re willing to be contacted for future research projects. Agreeing to this additional consent variable, in conjunction with a variety of inclusion criteria listed below, makes our participants eligible to participate in sub-studies. View the study consent(s) here (link to bullet point below)/or just prompt them to visit that section once it has a complete title.
Research Interest Groups
The CHARM Alliance benefits from the expertise of many scientific investigators, here in Michigan, and across the nation. Many of our subject-experts have spear-headed Research Interest Groups. Our active Groups are listed below. The list includes a brief summary of the group’s efforts & contact information for the investigator leading the group.
- CHARM Microbiome Working Group
Sarah Comstock PhD, MSU
- CHARM Chemical Exposures Working Group
Jackie Goodrich PhD, UM
- CHARM Placenta Working Group
Jennifer Straughen PhD, HFH
