FAQ

ECHO is our national group. More information about the NIH ECHO Program can be found here.

NIH originally funded ECHO in 2016. Because it was so successful, we received approval for another 7 years. We are referring to these next 7 years as "ECHO 2."

CHARM (Child Health Advances from Research with Mothers) is an alliance of scientists and healthcare providers from five Michigan institutions whose goal is to improve the health of mothers and children in our state. At this time, there are two cohorts in CHARM: ARCH and MARCH. ARCH is mainly based out of Lansing, Traverse City, and Detroit and recruited pregnant mothers from 2008 to 2017. MARCH is population-based, meaning we recruited pregnant mothers from all across Michigan from 2016 to 2023. Both cohorts participate in the NIH ECHO Program.

Yes, this can be done electronically. We will let you know when it's time for you to sign one.

We will still send you online surveys to complete, but they may not fall on your child's birthday.

Of course! We will still send incentives as our way of saying thank you for completing surveys, sending in specimens, and coming in for assessments.

Yes, we will still have optional studies in addition to the CHARM study. Researchers will reach out to you if you are eligible.

The last day to send us a specimen is July 15th. If you still have a kit after this day, please reach out to Kylee at voorhisk@msu.edu.

The last day to send us your remote visit box is June 23rd. If you still have your box after June 23rd, please email EPI.CHARMSTUDY@msu.edu.

You and your child’s continued participation is extremely valuable because long-term data from our study can help researchers to better understand influences on health over time. Health problems can emerge and change as a child grows, and our study can help the researchers make connections to causes they wouldn’t otherwise see. It is extremely valuable to have data from pregnancy into childhood and having that long term data for many children in a study makes a larger impact. So we would love for you to continue participating through the next 7 years! The CHARM Study and every part of the study is voluntary. Please email us at EPI.CHARMSTUDY@msu.edu if you have questions about your participation.

No, at this time, we are not enrolling siblings in the study.
